Do you have patients with three insurance plans? While Dentrix doesn’t offer a direct way to work with a tertiary insurance plan, there are workarounds that you can use to submit claims and be paid by a patient’s tertiary insurance.
Watch the following video to learn how to work with tertiary insurance. (Duration 3:49)
Additional Tips
- For methods one and two, note the following:
- Optionally, you may want to print the patient’s primary and secondary claims (as additional documentation) and have them submitted to the tertiary carrier along with the walkout report or the completed ADA form.
- Since tertiary carriers will likely send their payments directly to your patients, there is no “claim” in the Ledger to post a payment to. Therefore, it might help to prearrange with your patients to have their tertiary carriers pay your practice directly.
- If the tertiary carriers pay your patients, you should bill your patients for any amounts owed to your practice.
- Juggling the patient’s secondary and tertiary insurance information can be confusing. To help, create a guarantor note of the patient’s insurance plan information. You may also want to create a patient alert note to pop up for the following events: Create Insurance Claim, Edit Existing Insurance Claim, Treatment Planner, and any other modules that you find applicable.
