Modifying Insurance Claim Information

Topic Progress:

Do you ever have to modify an insurance claim? For instance, do you need to change the claim’s place of treatment, note if the patient is disabled or injured on-the-job, is having orthodontic treatment, etc.? There are many reasons for modifying a claim, and you can make most — if not all — of your changes in the Insurance Claim Information window of Dentrix.

Watch the following video to learn how to modify insurance claim information. (Duration 2:53)

Additional Tips

  • By default, “Standard” appears in the Claim Information block of the Primary Insurance Claim window. If you change the claim’s information, “Non-Standard” will appear in the block.
  • In addition to the Family File, you can also modify default claim information for specific patients from the Appointment Book, by double-clicking the appointment and clicking the Ins Claim Info button.
  • If you received a preauthorization number, which you previously entered into Dentrix, this number automatically displays in the Insurance Claim Information window’s Preauthorization Number field. If there’s more than one preauthorization number for the procedures in a claim, you must create a separate claim for each set of procedures that have different preauthorization numbers.
  • For the accident description field, only the first two characters of the field print on a claim; therefore, it’s recommended that the state’s abbreviation be entered in this field before any other information.
  • This lesson does not discuss the Attachments block. For help with this block, review the Mastery Tracks topic Adding Attachments to a Claim.
  • For more information about creating a preauthorization, review the Mastery Tracks topics Creating a Primary Pre-Authorization and Creating a Secondary Pre-Authorization.
