Adding Attachments to a Claim

Topic Progress:

Insurance carriers often ask for additional supporting information for a patient’s claims, such as x-rays, perio exams, correspondence, or other documentation. You can attach such data to a claim, so that the claim can be processed efficiently you can receive payment quicker.

Watch the following video to learn how to add attachments to a patient’s claim. (Duration 2:23)

Additional Tips

  • The Include Attachments button will be disabled until you select a quantity of 1 or more attachments.
  • When you click the Auto Attachments button, any attachments already in the Attachments List will be removed, and Dentrix will attempt again to find all of the claim’s attachments automatically. (If you have Dentrix set to search for and add attachments automatically, the auto-attachments feature will first run when the claim is created.)
  • Use the View menu to switch between viewing attachment details or thumbnail images.
  • Images acquired with Screen Capture and File Acquire are also saved in the patient’s Document Center.
  • When attaching from the Document Center, you can only view and attach files that are saved in an image format, such as PNG, JPG, TIF, etc.
  • Claims processing software cannot interpret Microsoft Word files, but you can easily convert Word files to Plain Text (.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) files using the Save As command in Word. For instructions, refer to Microsoft Word help.
  • Non-Electronic information can only be relayed when submitting electronic claims.
  • This lesson only discusses the Attachments portion of the Insurance Claim Information box. For more information about the other options in the box, review the Mastery Tracks topic, Modifying Insurance Claim Information.
  • For more information about Smart Image, read Smart Image Overview and its related topics in Dentrix Help.
