Getting Started with the Ledger

Topic Progress:

Collecting patient payments is one of the most important tasks in a dental practice. If you are not asking patients for payments at the time of service and following up on patient balances that have not been paid, the practice will have limited cash flow. The Ledger is the Dentrix module that helps you track patient balances and enter payments.

The Dentrix Ledger helps you manage financial accounts by bringing all financial information into one place. With it, you can enter payments and procedures, print statements, create and send claims, set up financial agreements, work with insurance claims, and much more.

Additional Tips

  • The Ledger includes toolbar buttons (symbols) to provide easy access to most of the Ledger’s tools. For a complete list of the toolbar’s symbols and definitions, review The Ledger Toolbar in Dentrix Help.
  • In the lower blocks of the Ledger, the amounts in the Expected from Dental Insurance and Family Portion of Balance fields are based upon pending claims and Today’s Charges. These amounts appear in red if you have not yet created a claim for today’s procedures. Create the claim, and these amounts will no longer be red. To view an example of this situation, review The Ledger Window topics in Dentrix Help.
  • To learn more about getting started with the Ledger, review the Ledger Overview topcs and read Setting View Options in Dentrix Help.
