Identifying Areas of the Document Center

Topic Progress:

The Dentrix Document Center is like a digital filing cabinet you can use to collect and store items that were previously held in a patient’s paper file, such as X-rays, insurance cards, correspondence, billing statements, etc. Once you have saved documents in the Document Center, you can easily access them from the Document Center window, which includes several tools and features to help you electronically view, manage, and store documents.

Additional Tips

  • Documents are stored in folders that correspond to the document type they have been assigned. Individual documents within the folder can be represented by various icons.
  • When a folder is expanded, documents are shown with a left and right thumbnail icon with the following meanings:
  • Left Thumbnail Icon – This icon will change based on how the document attachments are modified and according to how the View By Patient Filters are set up.
Document attached to Patient’s Provider
Document attached to Patient’s Employer
Document attached to Patient’s Referred TO
Document attached to Patient’s Referred BY
Document attached to Patient’s Dental Insurance
Document attached to Patient’s Medical Insurance
Consent Form Attached
Patient Filter Not Included
  • Right Thumbnail Icon – This icon represents whether or not a document is digitally signed.
Document is not signed
Document has a signature attached
  • In the Document Tree section of the Document Manager, click the plus “+” symbol next to the folder to expand the folder and see the contents. Click the minus “” symbol to hide the content of the folder.
  • You can store documents for both patients and providers. When you open the Document Center from a patient-specific module (Family File, Ledger, Patient Chart, etc.), the Document Center opens for the selected patient. However, you are prompted to select a provider if you open the Document Center from the Office Manager.
  • You can turn the thumbnail view on/off from the View menu in the Document Center.
  • To learn more about identifying areas of the Document Center, read The Document Center Window, The Document Center Toolbars and Customizing the Document Center Display topics in Dentrix Help.
