Emailing a Document from the Document Center

Topic Progress:

Locating and sending patient documents can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially if you can’t find what you’re searching for nor easily send it. Fortunately, if you store patient documents in the Document Center, you can select a requested document, open an email message from Dentrix, which will automatically attach your document to it, and even send it to the patient via email.

Additional Tips

  • To email a document from Dentrix, your computer must be running MAPI-compliant email software, such as Microsoft’s Outlook or Outlook Express. Pop-mail accounts, such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail, do not work with Dentrix.
  • If MAPI-compliant software is not installed or your practice uses a web-based email solution (such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail), you can export the document and then attach it to an email. To do so, open the Document Center, highlight the document, click File, and then click Export Document(s). (Note where you exported the document to so you can attach it to your email.)
  • If a patient has an email address in the Family File, the To field will populate with the selected patient’s email address.
  • In the Document Information box, you can view (and edit) the document’s type, description, and notes — all of which will be incorporated into the email.
  • You may want to record the correspondence in the patient’s Office Journal, as Dentrix does not do this automatically.
  • You can also email documents using the Select Document(s) button on the Document Center toolbar.
  • To learn more about emailing a document from the Document Center, read Sending Documents Electronically in Dentrix Help.

Check Your Knowledge

If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.

  1. Switch to the Dentrix demo database.
(Skip this step if you are using the Dentrix Learning Edition software.)
  2. Use any convenient method to add a document to any patient in the database.
  3. If you have MAPI-compliant email software installed, email the document to yourself.
