Creating a New Patient Record

Topic Progress:

As your practice prospers, your number of patients should increase. This increase is ideal for business; however, every new patient must have a patient record, which you must accurately enter into Dentrix. With the Family File, you can create a new record and keep track of important details about the patient, like contact information, insurance coverage, and referral information.

Additional Tips

  • When you create a new family record, the first person entered is designated as the head of house and guarantor, which you can later change when another person is added to the family.
  • Dentrix uses the patient’s birth date to determine whether the patient should have primary or permanent dentition. If you do not enter a birth date, Dentrix will default the patient’s dentition to permanent (even if the patient’s status is Child).
  • If you checked any of the privacy request options, the phrase, “Privacy Requests” will display in red in the patient’s Family File information block, as well as on the title-bar of other modules. Additionally, Dentrix will prompt you to create a patient alert for these requests. If you click Yes, Dentrix will create the patient alert for you.
  • In most fields of the Head-of-House Information dialog box, Dentrix will automatically capitalize the first letter entered, so you can save time when entering patient information by not capitalizing and allowing Dentrix to do it for you.
