Assigning a Fee Schedule to a Patient

Topic Progress:

Your office recently started offering a discount plan for your patients. As part of the plan, patients are charged 25% less on preventive and basic restorative work. You can create a fee schedule in Dentrix that reflects the lower cost of these procedures and attach it to the patients on the discount plan so that those procedures are billed at the discounted rate. You can also use fee schedules to reflect the contracted amounts you are allowed to charge through the insurance plans you accept.

Additional Tips

  • Dentrix includes five pre-installed fee schedules; however, fees are not pre-assigned to these schedules. You must assign the actual fees. All other fee schedules that appear in the Select Fee Schedule dialog box are those that you create from the Office Manager.
  • Assigning a fee schedule to a patient will override all other methods by which you might assign a fee schedule.
  • If the patient’s fee schedule is set to <NONE>, Dentrix will automatically look to the patient’s insurance plan for a fee schedule. If the insurance plan does not include a fee assignment, the Provider’s fee schedule will be used.
  • By default, a patient is assigned their primary provider’s fee schedule. You can customize the fee schedules assigned to providers in the Office Manager. Click Maintenance > Practice Setup > Practice Resource Setup, select provider, and click Edit.
  • If an insurance plan has specific fees you must use, you can manually assign a fee schedule to an insurance plan. To assign a specific fee schedule to an insurance plan, in the Family File double-click the Insurance block and click the Insurance Data button.
  • You can also assign a fee schedule to a patient in the Treatment Planner by clicking View > Assign Other Fee.
