Setting Default Signature on File Options

Topic Progress:

Do you currently have new patients sign paperwork to authorize you to release their dental/medical insurance information or to grant that their assignment of benefits be paid to your office? If so, you can save time and effort by setting Dentrix to automatically select these options in a new patient’s insurance information, so you don’t have to.

Watch the following video to learn how to set default signature on file options. (Duration 0:48)

Additional Tips

  • These options only apply when you assign insurance plans to subscribers in their Family Files. They are not retroactive for established patients.
  • These options print “Signature on File” on a patient’s insurance claims, granting the following permissions to your office:
    • To release your patient’s dental and/or medical information to the patient’s insurance carrier.
    • To have the patient’s dental and/or medical assignment of benefits paid to your office and not to the patient (or guarantor).
  • If a new patient does not agree to these settings, you can deselect them in the patient’s Insurance Information dialog box in their Family File. (To do so, open the patient’s Family File, double-click the Insurance block, deselect the option(s), and click OK.)

Check Your Knowledge

If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.

  1. Switch to the Dentrix demo database.
(Skip this step if you are using the Dentrix Learning Edition software.)
  2. Change the setting so that Dentrix will always default to print signature on file, granting permission that their assignment of benefits be paid to your office.
