Customizing Perio Navigation Scripts

Topic Progress:

We all have individual tastes and preferences, which might include how you conduct a perio exam. Dentrix gives you the flexibility to create customized perio navigation scripts to coincide with how you record data for a patient’s mouth — moving from tooth to tooth and site to site in the direction that you prefer.

Additional Tips

  • While you cannot edit or delete scripts that come preloaded with Dentrix, you can create custom scripts tailored to your charting methods, which you can then edit and delete as needed. You can also copy and export these customized scripts to a file to have them imported to other workstations.
  • Customized scripts can be named for the specific provider who created them or any name that works best for your practice and/or providers. For example, you can create a script that only measures the probing depths and gingival margins and name it “PD & GM”.
  • When you select a script on a workstation, that workstation will remember that script until it’s changed again on the “same” workstation.
  • The term “left” and “right” refer to the distal and mesial surfaces, respectively, from the provider’s perspective.
  • You can list tooth numbers separately when creating a script. If you do, separate the tooth numbers with commas. If you enter a range of tooth numbers, use a hyphen to separate each range.
  • To learn more about customizing perio navigation scripts, review the Perio Navigation Scripts Overview topics in Dentrix Help.

Check Your Knowledge

If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.

    1. Switch to the Dentrix demo database. (Skip this step if you are using Dentrix Learning Edition software.)
    2. Create a perio navigation script that records probing depths and moves the data entry cursor in the pattern seen here.
