Updating Case Status

Topic Progress:

In the Treatment Planner, you can assign a “status” to a treatment-plan case, which you can use to indicate if the case was accepted, rejected, referred to another provider, or completed. Procedures contained in rejected cases do not show in the Patient Chart, so the Chart remains uncluttered while still allowing you to keep a record of all the procedures that you recommended and presented to your patient.

Additional Tips

  • The following status options are available to update a case’s status:
    • Created – This is the default status assigned to new cases.
    • Printed – When you print the case, Dentrix automatically changes the case status to Printed.
    • Follow-Up Made – Indicates that you followed-up the case with the patient or insurance carrier.
    • Referred – Indicates that you referred the case to another provider.
    • Accepted – Indicates that the case was accepted by the patient.
    • Rejected – Indicates that the patient rejected the case.
    • Completed – Indicates that procedures within the case are set complete. (You cannot change the status of completed cases in the Treatment Planner.)
  • When you change a case status to Referred, the following additional actions occur:
    • Procedure fees for that case change to zero.
    • The indicated provider appears in the Referred To block in the Family File.
    • Treatment-planned procedures in the case will not appear in the Appointment Book or Ledger.
  • When you change a case status to Completed, the following additional actions occur:
    • Any alternate case linked to the completed case has its status changed to Rejected.
    • Procedures in the case are posted to the Chart and Ledger as completed, with that day’s date.
    • Unless the Include Completed Cases option is checked, the case is hidden in the Treatment Planner.
  • In the Case Status History section, Dentrix tracks the changes made to the status of the case. Click here to learn how to view a status history.
