There are many processes in Dentrix that happen with the click of a button. For example, in the Ledger, there are buttons for processing insurance claims, and generating walkout statements, billing statements, and the Family Ledger Report. By setting up Direct Processing Options, you can specify what happens when each of these buttons are selected — whether a report prints immediately, is sent to the Batch Processor, or (if applicable) is sent electronically.

How To
Perform the following steps to set up direct processing options from the Ledger.
- Open the Ledger and click File > Direct Processing Options Setup.
- In the Insurance Claims drop-down list, choose one of the following actions to occur when the Ins. Today’s Proc and Ins. Selected Proc buttons are selected in the Ledger’s toolbar:
- Batch – Sends insurance claims to the Batch Processor.
- Send Real-time Electronically (Batch Otherwise) – Submits insurance claims electronically when a payor is set up to process claims in real-time; and if not, the claim is sent to the Batch Processor.
- Send Electronically – Submits claims electronically (requires an eServices account).
- Print – Sends insurance claims directly to your printer.
- In the Billing Statement drop-down list, select whether to batch, send electronically, or print statements when the Print Statements button is selected.
- In the Family Ledgers drop-down list, select whether to batch or print a family ledger statement when the Print Family Ledger button is selected.
- In the Walkouts drop-down list, select whether to batch or print a walkout statement when the Print Walkout button is selected.
- Click OK to save your settings.
Additional Tips
- By default, Dentrix tracks insurance payors who are set up to process claims in real-time, and Dentrix will alert you when you try to print (or batch) a claim whose payor is capable of real-time processing. To disable this feature, deselect Display Real-Time Payor Notice.
- By default, Dentrix validates claim attachments. To disable this feature, deselect Validate Claim Attachments.
- To learn more about setting up direct processing options, read Setting Up Direct Processing Options in Dentrix Help.
Check Your Knowledge
If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.
- Switch to the Dentrix demo database.
(Skip this step if you are using the Dentrix Learning Edition software.) - You want patient walkout statements to print automatically, instead of them going to the Batch Processor. Make this change in your direct processing options.
