Creating an Appointment Book View

Topic Progress:

As a patient approaches the front desk, what appointment information do you want to see at a glance? If you need to open the Appointment Book while a patient is with you in an operatory, what are you doing to hide protected health information? Creating Appointment Book views allows you to control what appointment information appears on each of your workstation screens.

Additional Tips

  • Appointment views are workstation-specific, which makes it possible to have different views at different workstations throughout your practice.
  • You can create up to twelve different views on one workstation. Each view is associated with one function key (F1, F2, and so on). You can quickly switch to another view by selecting the related function key.
  • The lines in the drop-down lists of the Appointment Display Info group box correspond to the lines of the appointment. Most appointments display two to four information lines, so assign the essential items to the first few lines.
  • If you frequently schedule several different procedures in an appointment, you can use two or three back-to-back lines for the Appointment Reason item. That way, if the description will not fit on one line, Dentrix will wrap it to the next line.

Check Your Knowledge

If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.

  1. Switch to the Dentrix demo database.
(Skip this step if you are using the Dentrix Learning Edition software.)
  2. Use the following information to create an Appointment Book view for a hygiene operatory:
    • One hygiene provider should appear in the view, HYG1, and she works out of OP-3.
    • The hygiene provider works Tuesday through Saturday.
    • To protect confidential patient information, you only want to display the patient’s name and the appointment reason.
    • Set up the view so that the Appointment Reason item wraps to a second line.
    • Set all the other Appointment Display Info line options to [none].
