Adding a Procedure Button

Topic Progress:

Your office upgraded to a full-mouth panoramic x-ray machine, and you want to add a procedure button to the Patient Chart to quickly chart code the Panoramic Image code, without having to search through a list of codes. With Dentrix, you can add a button to the Procedure Button panel, which consists of specific procedure code buttons and customizable images. Using these buttons, you can quickly complete or diagnose treatment.

Additional Tips

  • Each procedure button represents a single procedure code, multi-code, or condition.
  • Dentrix provides 24 default procedure buttons; however, there is no limit to the number of procedure buttons you can add and customize to the specific needs of your practice.
  • You can create your own “set” of procedure buttons by clicking the Save Button Set button in the Procedure Buttons Setup window. You can also manage your sets by clicking the Manage Button Set button.
  • Dentrix uses a smart-code feature, which automatically updates procedure codes based on the surfaces and tooth number used when you post resins and amalgams. For example, if you use the Resin One Surface Anterior code to post a three-surface resin to tooth 28, Dentrix updates the code to reflect three surfaces and the posterior tooth location. Smart-code eliminates the need to assign multiple variations of the same code to your procedure buttons.
  • You do not have to enter multiple variations of the same code, such as amalgams or root canals. Instead, assign the basic code to the button. Dentrix then checks the tooth number or surface selections and updates the code automatically to the appropriate variation.

Check Your Knowledge

If you have access to Dentrix, check your knowledge with this exercise.

  1. Switch to the Dentrix demo database.
(Skip this step if you are using the Dentrix Learning Edition software.)
  2. Open the Patient Chart and create and add a procedure button for any procedure that your office frequently uses but does not currently have in the Chart’s Procedure Buttons panel. (After creating it in the Sample Database, consider creating it in your active Dentrix database.)
