Your practice will often have an appointment that involves more than one procedure. For instance, a “cleaning appointment” combines a comprehensive exam, x-rays, and the prophy itself. In Dentrix, you can create a single multi-code that includes all three procedure codes. When that multi-code is scheduled, completed, or posted, all of the individual codes are included. Creating multi-codes is particularly helpful if there are several procedures that need to be included together, where you might forget one of the codes if you had posted them individually.

Additional Tips
- In the Appointment Book, the abbreviated description will display on the face of the appointment.
- Dentrix automatically adds “xx” to the beginning of all multi-codes. When you are looking for multi-codes, look for the “xx” at the beginning.
- You can add up to eight procedures to each multi-code. However, you can have one multi-code within a multi-code. If you have more than eight procedures, create a multi-code for some of the procedures, then add that multi-code to the multi-code you are creating (like when you need to create a multi-code for a full mouth series).
- If your multi-code includes procedures that require surfaces, quadrants, or sextants when you post the code, a group box appears that allows you to select the needed information. Dentrix flags multi-codes consisting of one or more procedures that require additional treatment information, such as a tooth number with an asterisk (*) in the Procedure Codes List.
- Every time a procedure code is added to a multi-code, the Procedure Time field automatically increases with appropriate units of time for the combined procedures. However, you can adjust the units of time and the time assigned to each provider, assistant, and chair in the Appointment Time Pattern dialog box, as needed.
