In Dentrix, you can assign primary insurance to a patient who is either a subscriber or a dependent. If patients are not assigned to an insurance plan–or worse, assigned to the incorrect insurance plans–claims cannot be properly generated and processed.

Additional Tips
- An insurance subscriber does not need to be the head of household/guarantor. Insurance subscribers can be any member of the family, regardless of household position or patient status.
- If an insurance subscriber is not a patient within the family unit, add them as a family member and set their status to Non-Patient. You can then assign insurance to the non-patient, as the subscriber, and then assign their insurance to dependent(s) family members in the same Family File.
- When the Head of Household is assigned as the subscriber of an insurance plan, for convenience, all family members added to the Family File afterward will automatically be assigned as dependents under the subscriber’s insurance plan.
- To have the Signature on File options preselected for you, refer to the Courses for Managers topic, Setting Default Signature on File Options.
